Pečnjak families are Croats and they are mostly from Vrbovca. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Vrbovec. In Đivan in Vrbovec every sixth inhabitant had the family name Pečnjak.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Pečnjak live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are only located in in 7 Croatian cities and 9 other places, mostly in Gornja Bistra in Oroslavje area (10), Zagreb (<10), Hrebinec in Dugo Selo area (<10), Zapresic (<10), and in Split (<10).

Family name Pečnjak (including: Pecnjak , Pechnyak and Pechenyak ) is present in five countries on two continents.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
