Panić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Krajina , often Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cakovec and in Bosnian Krajina (Prijedor area). In Jezera in Bosnian Krajina every fifth inhabitant had the family name Panić.
Prevalence
About 1100 people with faimily name Panić live in Croatia today, in 510 households. There were 1000 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 64 cities and 168 other places, mostly in Zagreb (145), Rijeka (70), Varazdin (25), Cakovec (25), and in Osijek (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
