Okanović families can be both Croats (the family name originates from Cazinska Krajina Region , Bosnia) and Bosniaks (iz Tuzla Region, Bosnia), very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Velika Kladusa area) and in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Bihac area). In Nahvioci in Tuzla Region (Bosnia) every tenth inhabitant had the family name Okanović.
