Murtić families are generally Croats and they are mostly from Cazinska Krajina Region (Bosnia), less frequently Bosniaks (also from Cazinska Krajina Region , Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Velika Kladusa area) and in Zagreb. In Donja Slapnica in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every second inhabitant had the family name Murtić.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Murtić live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 22 other places, mostly in Zagreb (45), Labin (15), Siroka Rijeka in Duga Resa area (10), Split (<10), and in Petrinja (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
