Modrić families are Croats and they are mostly from Benkovac area. According to some sources they are from Podgorja. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj and Zagreb. In Zaton Obrovački in Benkovac area every third inhabitant had the family name Modrić.
Prevalence
About 1700 people with faimily name Modrić live in Croatia today, in 720 households. There were 1400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 74 cities and 150 other places, mostly in Zagreb (215), Glavice (165), Rijeka (115), Zadar (105), and in Split (85).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
