Mitrović families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Biograd na Moru area. According to some sources they are from Zelengrada, rarely Serbs, and Roms (Slavonski Brod). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and Slavonski Brod. In Zelengrad in Obrovac every second inhabitant had the family name Mitrović.
Prevalence
About 2600 people with faimily name Mitrović live in Croatia today, in 1100 households. There were 1500 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 81 cities and 223 other places, mostly in Slavonski Brod (350), Zagreb (325), Zadar (150), Split (115), and in Rijeka (100).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over eighty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
