In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Velika Kladusa area) and in Podrinje, Bosnia (Rogatica area). In Golubovići in Podrinje (Bosnia) every fourth inhabitant had the family name Melkić.
