Medić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Makarska area. According to some sources they are from Herzegovina, also Serbs, very rarely Bosniaks (iz Tuzla Region, Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and Zagreb. In Zaklopac in Knin area nearly every inhabitant had the family name Medić.
Prevalence
About 2000 people with faimily name Medić live in Croatia today, in 920 households. There were 2200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 76 cities and 179 other places, mostly in Zagreb (430), Petrcane (105), Split (100), Zadar (100), and in Brela in Makarska area (90).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
