About 50 people with faimily name Meandžija live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 5 other places, mostly in Majske Poljane (15), Glina (<10), Petrinja (<10), Zagreb (<10), and in Kastav (<10).
Outside Croatia
At least five families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: France (3), Germany (1), and to the United States (1). Family name Meandžija (including: Meandzija , Mehandiya ) is present in four countries on two continents.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
