Meštrić families are Croats and they are mostly from Novi Marof. According to some sources they are from Kakanj (Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Varazdin and Novi Marof. In Presečno in Novi Marof every fourth inhabitant had the family name Meštrić.
Prevalence
About 530 people with faimily name Meštrić live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 350 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 24 cities and 37 other places, mostly in Presecno (190), Zagreb (90), Kukljica on the Island of Ugljan (35), Novi Marof (25), and in Varazdin (25).
Outside Croatia
At least six families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to the United States (4) and Australia (2). Family name Meštrić (including: Mestrich , Mestric ) is present in five countries on three continents. "Mestrich " is used by some 60 people in the United States , small number in Spain , and small number of people in Brazil.
