Matjašić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Mursko Sredisce , less frequently Slovenes. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Cakovec. In Petruš Vrh in Ozalj every fifth inhabitant had the family name Matjašić.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Matjašić live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 13 other places, mostly in Zagreb (10), Pucisca on the Island of Brac (<10), Vivodina (<10), Cakovec (<5), and in Veliki Grdjevac in Grubisno Polje area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
