In Croatia, Masleša families are predominantly Croats (from Garesnica ), rarely Serbs, and barely Bosniaks (from North Herzegovina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Garesnica and Split. In Džepi in North Herzegovina every third inhabitant had the family name Masleša.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Masleša live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Trnoviticki Popovac (<10), Split (<10), Kosute in Sinj area (<10), Bjelovar (<5), and in Sibenik (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1926 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
