Martinčić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Krizevci area , rarely Italians (from Pula ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and Koprivnica. In Dedina in Krizevci area every third inhabitant had the family name Martinčić.
Prevalence
About 900 people with faimily name Martinčić live in Croatia today, in 390 households. There were 1100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 45 cities and 94 other places, mostly in Zagreb (105), Pula (55), Dedina in Krizevci area (50), Koprivnica (40), and in Rijeka (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1678 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
