Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Markiš live in Croatia today, in 14 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are only located in in 6 Croatian cities and threee other places, mostly in Rijeka (10), Sveti Ivan Zelina (10), Gornja Greda in Dugo Selo area (<10), Dugo Selo (<5), and in Velika Ludina in Cazma area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
