Marinović families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Korcula. According to some sources they are from Boke Kotorske (Perast), rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Benkovac. In Korita in Sinj area every second inhabitant had the family name Marinović.
Prevalence
About 3600 people with faimily name Marinović live in Croatia today, in 1400 households. There were 2500 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 78 cities and 265 other places, mostly in Zagreb (395), Split (295), Zadar (220), Otok in Sinj area (155), and in Policnik in Zadar area (130).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over seventy times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
