Marijić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Derventa area) and in Slavonski Brod.
Prevalence
About 420 people with faimily name Marijić live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 28 other places, mostly in Slavonski Brod (220), Zagreb (50), in Gornja Vrba (45) and Bukovlje (10) in Slavonski Brod area, and in Ilok (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
