Maršić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area. According to some sources they are from Herzegovina, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Imotski area and in Imotsko.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Maršić live in Croatia today, in 480 households. There were 680 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 49 cities and 83 other places, mostly in Zagreb (175), Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (150), Split (100), Bosnjaci in Zupanja area (80), and in Strizivojna in Djakovo area (70).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1516 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
