Marčina families are Croats and they are mostly from Luka on Dugi (Long) Island. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on Dugi, Long Island and in Zadar. In Luka on Dugi (Long) Island every third inhabitant had the family name Marčina.
Prevalence
About 90 people with faimily name Marčina live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 7 cities and four other places, mostly in Zadar (45), Luka on Dugi (Long) Island (20), Rijeka (<5), Gornji Karin (<5), and in Benkovacko Selo (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
