Malinović families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Ivanic-Grad area , often Serbs, very rarely Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and in Bosanian Posavina (Gradacac area). In Orlice in Middle Bosnia nearly every inhabitant had the family name Malinović.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Malinović live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 22 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Osijek (15), Bobota in Vukovar area (15), Kriz in Ivanic-Grad area (15), and in Rijeka (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1673 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
