Malić families are often Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina , less frequently Serbs and Bosniaks (Cazinska Krajina, Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Western Bosnia (Tomislavgrad area). In Sekulići in Ozalj every second inhabitant had the family name Malić.
Prevalence
About 720 people with faimily name Malić live in Croatia today, in 320 households. There were 420 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 42 cities and 68 other places, mostly in Zagreb (175), Rijeka (60), Sesvete (40), Ploce (30), and in Split (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1729 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
