Mahić families are often Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Rab , less frequently Bosniaks (from Bosnian Krajina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area). In Kamičani in Bosnian Krajina every twentieth inhabitant had the family name Mahić.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Mahić live in Croatia today, in 40 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 5 other places, mostly in Zagreb (25), Sisak (10), Kampor on the Island of Rab (<10), Osijek (<10), and in Split (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
