Ljubić families are Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Herzegovina (Siroki Brijeg area). In Brnjica in Sibenik nearly every inhabitant had the family name Ljubić.
Prevalence
About 2200 people with faimily name Ljubić live in Croatia today, in 950 households. There were 1800 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 76 cities and 193 other places, mostly in Zagreb (555), Sibenik (150), Split (140), Velika Horvatska in Pregrada area (65), and in Kastel Luksic (60).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
