Kartelo families are Croats and they are mostly from Skradin. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Skradin and Sibenik. In places Vaćani and Sonković in Skradin every tenth inhabitant had the family name Kartelo.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Kartelo live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 10 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Sibenik (25), Vuksic (20), Vacani (20), and in Puticanje in Vodice area (15).
Outside Croatia
At least three families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Germany (1), the United States (1), and to Australia (1). Family name Kartelo is present in 11 countries worldwide.
