About 30 people with faimily name Kanižai live in Croatia today, in 14 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 50 percent. They are located in two Croatian counties, in one city and 8 other places, mostly in Novi Bezdan in Beli Manastir area (<10), Osijek (<5), Viskovo in Rijeka area (<5), and in Zmajevac (<5) and Suza (<5) in Beli Manastir area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
