Kalajžić families are Croats and they are mostly from Omis area. According to some sources they are from Zezevica near Sestanovac. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Omis. In Podašpilje in Omis every fifth inhabitant had the family name Kalajžić.
Prevalence
About 370 people with faimily name Kalajžić live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 20 other places, mostly in Split (95), Omis (70), Zezevica in Omis area (40), Zagreb (35), and in Dusina (35).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1938 in source Phone Book - Zagreb 1938.
