Kačar families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Vukovar , whereas often Croats (from Osijek ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Vukovar and Osijek. In Lastve in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every third inhabitant had the family name Kačar.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Kačar live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 160 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 13 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Osijek (10), Brsadin in Vukovar area (<10), Slavonski Brod (<10), and in Vukovar (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1927 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
