In Croatia, Jonić families are almost entirely Croats (from Split ), very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Sinj area.
Prevalence
About 30 people with faimily name Jonić live in Croatia today, in 12 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located and another small Croatian place , mostly in Split (20), Zagreb (<5), Rijeka (<5), Varazdin (<5), and in Koska in Nasice area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1721 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
