Jelkić families are Croats and they are mostly from Belisce. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Belisce and in Bosanian Posavina (Bosanska Gradiska area). In Vedro Polje in Hrvatska Kostajnica area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Jelkić.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Jelkić live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 19 other places, mostly in Belisce (25), Slavonski Brod (20), Zagreb (15), Bistrinci (15), and in Donja Bistra in Oroslavje area (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
