Jelenović families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Krk. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and on the Island of Krk. In Polje on the Island of Krk every tenth inhabitant had the family name Jelenović.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Jelenović live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 120 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 6 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Silo on the Island of Krk (20), Rijeka (15), Crikvenica (15), Zagreb (<10), and in Krk on the Island of Krk (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1933 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
