Ivaniš families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Cazinska Krajina Region (Bosnia), less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Banja Luka Region, Bosnia (Banja Luka area) and in Zagreb. In Kestenovac in Obrovac area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Ivaniš.
Prevalence
About 380 people with faimily name Ivaniš live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 370 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 30 other places, mostly in Zagreb (70), Slavonski Brod (40), Rijeka (25), Novo Selo (20), and in Varazdin (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
