In Croatia, Hukić families are mainly Croats (from the Island of Hvar ), rarely Bosniaks (from Podrinje (Bosnia) ), and very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Tesanj area) and in Zagreb. In Podčauš in Podrinje (Bosnia) every fourth inhabitant had the family name Hukić.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Hukić live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 6 other places, mostly in Zagreb (25), Pula (<10), Varazdin (<10), Brusje on the Island of Hvar (<5), and in Labin (<5).
Outside Croatia
Family name Hukić (including: Hukic , Chucas and Hucic ) is present in 22 countries worldwide. The family name "Hukic " is used by some 200 people in Iraq , about 100 in the United States , and small number of people in Canada , small number of people in Germany. "Hucic " is used by small number of people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
