In Croatia, Hrubi families are predominantly Croats (from Bjelovar ), rarely Hungarians (from Beli Manastir ), and very rarely Czechs (from Kutina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bjelovar and Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Hrubi live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 70 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and two other places, mostly in Zagreb (15), Varazdin (<10), Hreljin (<10), Sveta Nedelja in Samobor area (<10), and in Bjelovar (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
