In Croatia, Hočevar families are generally Croats (from Niksic, Montenegro ), very rarely Slovenes (from Slovenia ), and barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Middle Bosnia (Sarajevo area).
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Hočevar live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 7 other places, mostly in Zagreb (15), Jastrebarsko (<10), Split (<10), Velika Gorica (<5), and in Kutina (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
