Grkinić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Nova Gradiska area , whereas often Croats (from Rijeka ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Knin area and in Nova Gradiska area. In Ramljane in Knin area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Grkinić.
Prevalence
About 90 people with faimily name Grkinić live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 250 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Rijeka (15), Ramljane in Knin area (15), Zagreb (15), Daruvar (10), and in Mali Losinj on the Island of Losinj (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1938 in source Phone Book - Zagreb 1938.
