Granić families are Croats and they are mostly from Makarska area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area) and in Western Bosnia (Livno area). In Vašarovići in Herzegovina every fifth inhabitant had the family name Granić.
Prevalence
About 910 people with faimily name Granić live in Croatia today, in 370 households. There were 510 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 38 cities and 63 other places, mostly in Split (160), Zagreb (115), Baska Voda in Makarska area (80), Donji Muc in Sinj area (45), and in Kastel Gomilica (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1735 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
