Grđan families are Croats and they are mostly from Ivanec. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Varazdin and Ivanec. In Osečka in Ivanec every fifth inhabitant had the family name Grđan.
Prevalence
About 720 people with faimily name Grđan live in Croatia today, in 290 households. There were 610 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 32 cities and 88 other places, mostly in Zagreb (80), Varazdin (65), Radovan (35), Osecka (30), and in Tuzno in Varazdin area (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
