Golemac families are Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Mostar area) and in Metkovic. In Vrdi in Herzegovina every third inhabitant had the family name Golemac.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Golemac live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 20 other places, mostly in Metkovic (35), Zagreb (25), Ploce (10), Cavtat in Dubrovnik area (10), and in Split (<10).
