Gilić families are Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj area and in Sinj. In Krivodol in Sinj area every third inhabitant had the family name Gilić.
Prevalence
About 210 people with faimily name Gilić live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Grab in Sinj area (85), Split (40), Zagreb (20), and in Trilj (10) and Donji Muc (10) in Sinj area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
