Gelić families are generally Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Zenica area) and in Bosnian Krajina (Kotor Varos area). In Golići in Tuzla Region (Bosnia) nearly every inhabitant had the family name Gelić.
Prevalence
About 100 people with faimily name Gelić live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 26 other places, mostly in Knin (15), Koska in Nasice area (15), Mravince (<10), Zagreb (<10), and in Rovinj (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1689 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
