Gavranović families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Krajina. According to some sources they are from Montenegro or Pocitelj (Herzegovina), rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosnian Krajina (Prijedor area) and in Zagreb. In places Gornji Volar and Donja Ravska in Bosnian Krajina every seventh inhabitant had the family name Gavranović.

They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 50 cities and 76 other places, mostly in Zagreb (170), Petrinja (35), Kozarice (35), Rijeka (25), and in Split (20).
