In Croatia, Galijaš families are predominantly Serbs, less frequently Croats (from Zapresic area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Hrvatska Kostajnica area and in Zagreb. In Ostojići in Hrvatska Kostajnica area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Galijaš.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Galijaš live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 9 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Zagreb (<10), Sisak (<10), Borovo in Vukovar area (<10), Velika Gorica (<10), and in Petrinja (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1936 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
