In Croatia, Gaščić families are almost entirely Croats (from Vrbovec ), barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Vrbovec.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Gaščić live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are only located in four Croatian cities and 9 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Vrbovec (10), Brcevec (<10), Novo Virje in Djurdjevac area (<10), and in Negovec (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
