Filipović families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina , rarely Srbijanci (Srbija). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Brcko area) and in Zagreb. In places Laništa and Štrepci in Bosanian Posavina every fourth inhabitant had the family name Filipović.
Prevalence
About 6700 people with faimily name Filipović live in Croatia today, in 2800 households. There were 4100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 109 cities and 581 other places, mostly in Zagreb (1185), Sesvete (345), Rijeka (275), Zupanja (255), and in Split (235).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1716 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
