In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Imotski area and in Vinkovci. In Lokvičići in Imotski area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Dragun.

About 500 people with faimily name Dragun live in Croatia today, in 200 households. There were 430 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 34 other places, mostly in Split (95), Vinkovci (60), Zagreb (45), Otok in Vinkovci area (20), and in Kastel Kambelovac (20).
Outside Croatia
At least eight families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Germany (6), the United States (1), and to Austria (1). Family name Dragun is present in 31 countries worldwide.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1927 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
