Demić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Glina , also Croats (from Bjelovar ) and Bosniaks. According to some sources the family name originates from south Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Glina and Bjelovar. In Gornji Klasnić in Glina every sixth inhabitant had the family name Demić.
Prevalence
About 90 people with faimily name Demić live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 160 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 14 other places, mostly in Zagreb (10), Donji Klasnic (<10), Rijeka (<10), Sisak (<10), and in Bijele Vode (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
