Crnić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Delnice area. According to some sources they are from Turopolje, barely Bosniaks (from Bosnian Krajina Region), and Serbs, also from Bosanske Krajine. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Rijeka.
Prevalence
About 640 people with faimily name Crnić live in Croatia today, in 270 households. There were 720 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 27 cities and 55 other places, mostly in Zagreb (195), Rijeka (50), Mrkopalj in Delnice area (45), Pravutina in Ozalj area (30), and in Kutina (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned about one hundred times, the first time 1692 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
