Bukovčan families are Croats and they are mostly from Varazdin area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Koprivnica and in Varazdin area. In Ljubelj Kalnički in Varazdin area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Bukovčan.
Prevalence
About 270 people with faimily name Bukovčan live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 280 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 38 other places, mostly in Novi Marof (40), Zagreb (35), Zablatje in Koprivnica area (15), Ljubelj Kalnicki in Varazdin area (15), and in Koprivnica (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
