Bošnjak families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , rarely Serbs. According to some sources they are from Herzegovina (Mostara, Široki Brijeg). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Zagreb. In Grabova Draga in Herzegovina every second inhabitant had the family name Bošnjak.

They are located in all Croatian counties, in 104 cities and 539 other places, mostly in Zagreb (1135), Osijek (330), Split (325), Sesvete (180), and in Vinkovci (140).
