Bečić families are often Croats and they are mostly from Split , less frequently Bosniaks (from Cazinska Krajina Region, Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb. In Srinjine in Split every ninth inhabitant had the family name Bečić.
Prevalence
About 320 people with faimily name Bečić live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 170 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 22 other places, mostly in Srinjine (130), Split (80), Zagreb (40), Dubrovnik (15), and in Rijeka (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
