Barač families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Split , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 300 people with faimily name Barač live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 470 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 39 cities and 35 other places, mostly in Split (105), Zagreb (60), Dubrovnik (20), Osijek (15), and in Koprivnica (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1786 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
